What is the difference between bifocal and multifocal lenses?
Bifocal lenses have two distinct vision zones (distance & near), separated by a visible line, while multifocal lenses (like progressives) offer a gradual, seamless transition through multiple powers (distance, intermediate, near) for all-around clear vision without lines.
Our bifocal lenses have the following options for coatings and/or tints on them:
Coatings:
- Hard coat- A hard coat is a clear, protective layer applied to plastic eyeglass lenses that makes them more resistant to scratches and everyday wear and tear.
- ARC – An anti-reflective coating is a thin, multilayer finish applied to lenses that reduces reflections and glare, allowing more light to pass through for clearer vision and reduced eye strain.
Tints:
- Photochromatic tint – A photochromic tint is a special lens treatment that causes the lenses to automatically change from clear to a dark sunglass tint when exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light and then return to their clear state indoors. (The photochromatic tint for bifocals are only available in a grey).
