About Phil Botha

My name is Phil Botha, and owning my own optometry practice has been a lifelong dream since my high school days. Today, I am fortunate to live that dream, managing three thriving practices under the banner of Optical Emporio. Every workday is a joy, thanks to the incredible team of staff and colleagues who make up our practices. Together, we’ve built three luxury boutique optometry locations, all guided by our shared motto: Providing the utmost personalized care to our patients. It truly is a dream come true in every sense!

I studied Optometry at Wits Technikon and The City University of London, and later pursued advanced courses at The New England College of Optometrists in Boston, USA. My career journey has taken me across London and South Africa, ultimately landing me in Durban for what started as a temporary locum position—33 years later, the rest is history!

Optometry remains my passion, with its continuous advancements in science, technology, and fashion. I love the challenge of staying at the forefront of these developments, adapting and applying them in practice. One of my greatest joys is combining my technical expertise and an eye for style to prescribe the perfect pair of spectacles for each patient.

It’s a privilege to do what I love while helping others see the world more clearly!

About Nicolette Raubenheimer

My name is Nicolette Raubenheimer, and I’ve spent most of my life in the beautiful suburb of Durban North. After attending Durban Girls’ College, I went on to study at UKZN. I’m married and a proud mom to three boys.

Early in my career as an optometrist, I took the opportunity to work in the UK, retraining in Wales before gaining valuable experience with some of the major optical chains in London. Upon returning to South Africa, I got married and worked alongside two highly experienced ophthalmologists, where I gained invaluable knowledge. Later, I co-founded a behavioral children’s optometry practice, which I eventually sold back to my partner.

With over 22 years of experience, I have a particular passion for working on complex cases and helping children with their visual needs. Currently, I practice at Optical Emporio branches in Amanzimtoti and Durban North. I strongly believe in providing comprehensive care and exceptional service to every patient, ensuring their needs are met with the utmost attention and professionalism.
